Editor-Members
Code Z's editor-members have each gained a reputation for always being in the know and for spreading information far and wide, online and off. Laylah Amatullah BarraynI am an essayist and photographer based in New York City. I have always been a lover of the arts; I believe this fascination came from my liberal arts childhood in which I studied ballet, Haitian dance and modern dance. My global travels are always prompts for ingesting anything and everything artistic. Through the medium of photography, I am able to contribute to humanity's cultural sphere. With writing, I feel I am able to create realms that should exist. |
Julia ChanceI live and write in Brooklyn, New York. Fashion is my passion and I enjoy chronicling the social and aesthetic statements it makes. I am the author of Sisterfriends: Portraits of Sisterly Love (Pocket Books), a photo essay book exploring the sisterly bonds among black women. |
Cinqué Hicks (Founder)I backed into fine art through writing, graphic design, and publishing. Put all that in a blender and you have what I am now: a cultural code reader, an ingester and maker of visual ideas. I founded this here site in hopes that it might become a home for every misfit and visionary making shit. I did it because I wish it had been around for me 15 years ago. I love everyone and I'm a little bit off my rocker. |
George KellyI am an online reporter for the Contra Costa Times, and have written and edited for the Oakland Tribune, The Industry Standard and Salon.com. At last year's inaugural Black Weblog Awards, I won best political/news blog for Negrophile.com and a lifetime-achievement award (due in part to my personal weblog, ALLABOUTGEORGE.com). I live in Oakland, California. |
Ingrid LaFleurI am a nomadic art maven. I investigate how contemporary art moves, grows, and connects throughout the world. I have traveled to 17 countries over the past six years, and have seen and experienced a variety of black visual cultures. This is my attempt at being the ultimate art historian, documenting an ever-evolving aspect of our global culture and delivering it in bite size pieces with a bit of spice. My website is Promiscuous Eye. |
Carla WilliamsI am a writer, editor, and photographer. My website is Carlagirl. I wish art were free. |
